Internet connection: The speed that a Web site appears on the monitor has to do with how fast the connection is to the computer. The majority of modems that exist are capable of a throughput speed of 56mbs over standard phone lines, but this does not mean that they actually will reach this speed. The speed of the modem depends on how fast data will travel through your phone line. Even with a 56mbs modem, standard phone lines may not get faster than 32mbs or less!
Nowadays digital phone lines are common in the work place and even in the home. DSL, and ISDN lines have paved the way for faster access routes that will soon carry enough information fast enough to make receiving movies, video phone calls, TV reception and other media over phone lines possible.
